Co-founders and Management
KEVIN EGGAN, Co-founder - Kevin Eggan is a professor in the department of Stem Cells and Regenerative Biology at Harvard, director of the Stem Cell program at the Broad Institute’s Stanley Center, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Early Career Scientist. He has garnered international recognition for his seminal work in stem cell biology, including the MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant” in 2006. His current research focuses on the application of stem cell technologies to increased understanding of nervous system disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and schizophrenia with the aim of developing new therapeutics.
ADAM E. COHEN, Co-founder - Adam E. Cohen is a professor in the departments of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and Physics at Harvard, with secondary appointments in the Center for Brain Science and the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. He is also an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The Cohen Lab developed the first robust genetically encoded fluorescent reporters of electrical activity in neurons. Cohen has received Young Investigator Awards from the Office of Naval Research, DARPA, the Dreyfus Foundation, and the Sloan Foundation. Technology Review Magazine named him one of the top 35 US technological innovators under the age of 35 and Popular Science named him one of their “Brilliant Ten” top young scientists. In 2010 he received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from President Obama.
DAVID MARGULIES, Co-founder & Executive Chairman - David Margulies is a physician executive and entrepreneur with career-long interests in computational biology and the neurosciences. In his 35 year career, David founded or co-founded six successful technology-based health system and health services companies and has served in senior executive or director roles for multiple public and private companies. He created the first clinical computing programs at both Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and Boston Children Hospital, serving as BCH’s first Chief Information Officer. From BCH, David went to Cerner Corporation as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist, also serving as a Director of Cerner. He co-founded CareInsite, now WebMD, serving in Director and senior executive roles. In 2000, David co-founded Correlagen Diagnostics, and was CEO and Chairman. LabCorp acquired Correlagen in 2011 to be its National Center of Excellence for DNA Diagnostics. David was co-founder of Generation Health, subsequently acquired by CVS/Caremark. More recently, while serving as Executive Director of the Gene Partnership at Boston Children’s Hospital, David was the driving force behind the creation of Claritas Genomics, where he now serves as a Director. David is a graduate of Amherst College and Harvard Medical School, and board certified in Internal Medicine. He holds an appointment as Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and is a member of the faculties of Genetics, Developmental Medicine, and Informatics.

JOEL KRALJ, Co-founder - Formerly a postdoc in the lab of Adam Cohen at the Harvard University Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Joel led the early development of microbial rhodopsin-based voltage indicators. His research on optical electrophysiology has been published in Science and Nature Methods. Joel’s areas of expertise include protein engineering, design of advanced instrumentation, and work with human iPSC-derived neurons and cardiomyocytes. Joel did his graduate work with Kenneth Rothschild in the physics department at Boston University, where he studied the molecular workings of microbial rhodopsin proteins.
